Provision of equipment and implant services for children with impoverished disabilities, community education
The Hong Kong Disabled Children's Care Association is a long-established charity. In 1956, the Association established the Duchess and Children's Hospital of Dagugen.
The purpose of the Hong Kong Disabled Children's Care Association is to support medical, surgical, rehabilitation and education services for disabled children in Hong Kong. We believe that disabled children also have the right to pursue a happy and fulfilling life. We will work together to enable them to thrive and enrich their lives, thereby realizing their potential and contributing to society.
In 2015/16, the number of hospitals was 3,482, and 1,860 surgeries were performed. The total number of clinical services and full-time medical services was 19,910 and 28,476 respectively. Our "Street Kid Puppet Theater" has more than 30,000 spectators in 2015/16.
There are many children with defects in Hong Kong and China who are unable to provide adequate treatment opportunities because of poor family conditions, which has made them difficult to grow, study, work and socialize. The goal of the club is to give treatment opportunities to disabled children and bring them new hopes in life.
The Department of Health has different services, including the “Domestic Sick Child Program” – providing medical assistance to sick children from poor families in the country. "Overseas Doctor Research Scholarship" - Half-yearly selection of two young doctors who have just completed plastic surgery courses in their country and arranged to work at the Duchess Children's Hospital in Dagu Khund, to learn the latest medical knowledge and technology. "Instrument Implant Sponsorship Scheme" - The Department of Health will subsidise the families of disabled children in need and purchase the medical expenses of the Hospital Authority's "self-purchasing medical items" list. "Kitchen Kid Puppet Theater" - is an educational program that promotes children who care about society, recognizes and accepts disabled children through puppet dolls. "Improving the medical environment and purchasing equipment for the Duchess of Ghent Children's Hospital in Daguchi" - Purchase non-priority equipment to help improve the quality of life of sick children in the Duchess Children's Hospital in Daguchi.
I hope that one day, all sectors of society will be able to accept and help disabled children so that they can have a better life and future.
